
Professor Olga Ulokina, a renowned musicologist, pedagogue and composer, focuses her research work on the topic of the Influence of Baroque genres on the compositional structure of piano fugues by J. S. Bach.
She graduated from the National Academy of Music N. Rimski – Korsakov in St. Petersburg (Russia) at the Department of Composition and Music Theory in the class of prof. Valentina Shirokova, a leading researcher of this field at the Peterburge Academy and a professional adviser of the Mariinsky Theater.
Throughout her career prof. Ulokina has worked closely with excellent experts in musicology and composition, I. Moskalkova and L. Bathan, the author of contemporary pedagogic books on this topic, which continue the famous compositional tradition of the great Russian composer N. Rimsky – Korsakov.
Prof. Ulokina, too, passes this tradition and knowledge though her work onto new generations of musicians in Slovenia. Together with her colleagues, prof. V. Repše and prof. A. Urbančič, she created a collection of textbooks that cover the entire system of development of various segments of music hearing development and music education in general.
The contents of these eight textbooks contains a lot of the professor’s compositional work. Prof. Ulokina is the author of several pedagogical musical works for various musical ensembles and orchestras. Her works are also used in the program of the National Slovenian Television.
Students of prof. Ulokina successfully continue their education at higher-level music academies all over the world.
She also transfers her experience to colleagues of pedagogues at seminars in Slovenia and abroad.
In 2008 she successfully presented her work at the international musicological symposium in Zadar.
In 2017, at the Artistic Gymnasium Velenje, she founded a new compositional project for young musicians. It opens new doors and opportunities in composition for young musicians and encourages them to write their own musical creations.
Prof. Ulokina is an active pianist and a chamber musician. She works with many renowned artists from Slovenia and abroad.
Prof. Olga Ulokina received the Gerbic Prize for Life Work this year.
