About the competition

The 8th International Competition for Young Musicians Oskar Rieding takes place in the nomination
YOUNG MUSICIANS COMPOSERS. It is adressed to instrumentalists and vocalists of all nationalities who like to compose and perform their own compositions.

THE THEME of this year’s 2024 competition is:

THE FOUR SEASONS – Nature’s Motifs as Composer’s Inspiration

It is desirable that the contestants connect their creative inspiration with the theme of the competition.

The theme of nature is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for many branches of art. We invite young composers to delve into the motifs of nature and present them in their works through the expression of their instrument in their own performance.

The competition winners will present their compositions to the audience at the GALA final concert of the competition, which will take place on June 4, 2024 at 18.00, at the Crystal Hall in Rogaška Slatina.

At prize winners concert young musicians will be able to present their compositions to audience across Slovenia.
As well the young artists will symbolically continue the musical tradition of the famous pedagogue and violinist Oskar Rieding, who was a successful violinist, composer and performer of his own works.

Thanks to the researching work of dr. Maruša Zupančič we certainly know that Rieding chose the city of Celje as his residence after the end of his successful orchestral career at the Budapest Opera House. Author wrote several important pedagogical and concert works in Celje as well. Among them is also one of the most frequently performed works of the violin pedagogical repertoire: a concerto in H minor, Op. 35.
